1. SAUCONY MEN’S RIDE 15

Product’s Specifications

  • Weight: 249g

  • Offset: 8mm

  • Terrain: Road

  • Category: Neutral

Product’s Highlights

The Saucony Men's Ride 15 is a superbly well-balanced daily runner that provides a neutral ride and ample cushioning without being overly heavy.

The light cushioning around the heel and tongue that cradles our feet while keeping them firmly in place was the first thing we noticed about how comfy they are. This meant there was no need for a break-in time, and we could wear them right out of the box without worrying about blisters. Even runners with narrow feet, like our tester, can tighten the sides of the shoe for a perfect fit thanks to the upper's smart straps coupled to the laces that wrap around the midfoot.

Here comes the jargon. The Saucony Men's Ride 15's midsole is constructed of the company's proprietary PWRRUN tech light foam, which is both lighter and more supportive than the material used in the Ride 14. Additionally, a new PWRRUN+ sock liner that is cushioned emphasizes how plush the sole feels.

Overall, we think the Saucony Ride 15 is an amazing everyday running shoe, giving rarely-rivaled levels of comfort and support while still providing a lightweight, bouncy feel suited for middle-to-longer distance sessions, recovery runs, and easy miles.

Pros

  • Much lighter than the previous version.

  • Very comfortable.

  • Cushioned.

  • Extremely versatile.

  • Wide base for stability.

Cons

  • Not the quickest.

2. BROOKS GHOST 13

Product’s Specifications

  • Weight: 286g

  • Offset: 12mm midsole drop

  • Terrain: Road

  • Category: Neutral

Product’s Highlights

We're glad that spirited running brand Brooks returned its tried-and-true Ghost line for the 13th iteration in 2020. Anyone who has bought a previous version of these shoes will know that they consistently provide excellent support, cushioning, and durability and the Ghost 13 is no different.

The Saucony Ghost 13 is a terrific everyday road running shoe with plush cushioning and a smooth ride that will keep you comfortable for miles on end, just like the Saucony Ride 15 before. Additionally, it costs $10 less than its competitor, a benefit we can always appreciate. Insufficient spring or bounce in the midsole prevented us from pushing over our personal best, but if longer routes are your thing, they won't let you down.

The enhanced DNA Loft technology, first introduced in the Ghost 11, is responsible for much of this comfort. This ground-breaking cushioning technology blends EVA foam, rubber, and air to offer soft landing surfaces for the forefoot, heel, and midfoot.

The upper feels like a cooling hug around our feet because it is strong, supportive, and breathable. There is something for both modest runners and flamboyant shoe enthusiasts because they look beautiful and come in various colorways.

Pros

  • Very comfortable.

  • Stable ride.

  • Super breathable.

  • Good grip both on wet and dry surfaces.

  • Suitable for slow and long runs.

Cons

  • Not the quickest.

3. SAUCONY KINVARA 12

Product’s Specifications

  • Weight: 213g

  • Offset: 4mm heel-toe drop

  • Terrain: Road

  • Category: Neutra

Product’s Highlights

This one's for you, kings and queens of speed. For runners with a neutral gait, the Saucony Kinvara 12 is an exceptionally lightweight shoe designed for personal records.

But don't think they're a one-trick pony; our tester called them "the whole package" after discovering they fit more comfortably than the Kinvara 11 and have better engineering.

You'll be pleased to hear that they don't forgo comfort either in their effort to lose a few extra pounds. For runners used to a softer ride, our tester suggested that its reduced offset and lack of squishy cushioning may take some getting used to. However, they started to enjoy wearing the Kinvara 12s after a few modest runs to break them in, claiming they give an incredible amount of bounce and energy return.

Even though the upper has been significantly reduced in weight, it still feels solid enough to hold our feet in place securely. We discovered that this rigidity supported our arches nicely and prevented our feet from sliding inside the shoe when we jogged. A layer of cushioning is still present around the collar and tongue to further the shoe's reputation for comfort.

Despite their best attempts, our tester could not find anything to complain about these excellent shoes. Thus, if you're looking for a shoe that combines speed and comfort, we recommend adding these as soon as possible.

Pros

  • Very lightweight.

  • Perfect fit.

  • Excellent foot lockdown.

  • Surprisingly durable.

  • Super flexible.

Cons

  • Not for cold days.

4.  ASICS NOVABLAST 2

Product’s Specifications

  • Weight: 275g

  • Offset: 8mm

  • Terrain: Road

  • Category: Neutral

Product’s Highlights

The Asics Novablast 2 vastly outperforms its well-liked predecessor. Premium materials have been used to replace the upper's relatively cheap-feeling components. A more robust heel cup addresses the issue of this area's lack of stability, and more forefoot cushioning guarantees a comfortable ride all around. It is a little bit heavier than the original Novablast because of these cool features, but not enough to affect how well you perform.

We discovered that when we put these shoes through their paces, they offered a smooth ride complemented by soft, balanced cushioning, proper shock absorption to prevent your knees from absorbing the brunt of each step, and a pleasingly springy midsole. We had the sensation that our feet would briefly sink into the cushy foam with each step before rebounding upward and giving us a great push-off. This made it easier for us to maintain a reasonable speed over greater distances than some of the Novablast 2's softer-soled competitors.

Since these shoes have a relatively narrow platform and our tester noticed that overpronation was encouraged, runners with no neutral stride may want to explore elsewhere (such as the Saucony Ride 15). Additionally, we discovered that they fit somewhat larger than their recommended size; therefore, if you want to make full use of the new and better cushioning, get a half-size smaller.

The Asics Novablast 2, on the other hand, is a neutral shoe that achieves a Goldilocks-like "just right" balance between cushioning and responsiveness for longer distances.

Pros

  • Very stable.

  • Plenty of cushioning.

  • Excellent breathability.

  • Very durable.

  • Perfect for long or recovery runs.

  • Versatile.

Cons

  • Fit large.

  • Untrusting grip.

FAQs

1. Should running shoes be tighter or looser?

Running shoes that are appropriately sized should feel snug around the toes and in the heel and midfoot. While standing, place your thumb close to the ball of your foot and around your toes to ensure they are the right length and width. Half to a whole thumb's space width should be allowed for a good fit.

Brooks Womens Ghost 14 Peacoat/Yucca/Navy 8.5 B - Medium

2. How long should a pair of running shoes last?

Between four and six months

Your running shoes should be replaced every 500 to 750 kilometers, according to experts. For someone who runs 20 miles a week, that translates to around every 300 to 500 miles, or every four to six months.

3. Do running shoes make a difference?

The right running shoes do make a difference, yes. They are designed specifically for jogging and the intense forces it produces. The benefits of wearing the right running shoes are numerous. Fewer foot problems, including blisters, are associated with a snug fit, which allows for flexibility and comfort when moving.

4. Is it OK to wear running shoes every day?

Running shoes with stability, motion control, and cushioning can be worn daily. There is no particular reason why you cannot use them regularly, provided they are comfortable and the right size for you. Wearing your running shoes every day, however, has drawbacks. Your shoes will wear out more quickly the more miles you log.
